Joy Barber, B.M, Ms.T., Certified Musikgarten Teacher
Music has always been an integral part of my life. I was an active soloist in middle and high school, sang in traveling specialty choirs, held lead roles in high school musicals and eventually pursued a college degree in the field. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Music Performance from the University of Oregon School of Music (1996) with a specialty in 20th century art songs. I graduated Cum Laude as well as receiving the distinctive honor of Most Outstanding Vocal Performer of The Year for 1995-1996. I was a soloist under the world-renowned Oregon Bach Festival conductor Helmuth Rilling and gave solo vocal performances with the Eugene Symphony.
After realizing my calling was to work with people in a more individualized environment, I followed my interests and studied to become a Massage Therapist. I received my certification in 2001 and have worked in various capacities including private practice for six years.
I am a proud mother of two young children 2 and 5 years of age. When my son began attending Musikgarten music classes as a young toddler, the curriculum impressed me so much that I knew I had to study and teach it! I reintegrated music into my career and became certified as an Early Childhood Music Specialist in the Musikgarten Curriculum. Quickly understanding the need for a studio in the Shoreline area, I began plans for a studio to be constructed on my home property. I believe the home studio model symbolizes the Musikgarten curriculum design for music literacy married with the educational and developmental teachings of the Montessori method. I am excited to invite you to my studio; made especially for you and your children.
